Silence and Disquiet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Location<\/em>: The Ardengo Soffici and Italian 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century Art Museum, Poggio a Caiano (Prato)<br \/>\nFrom 28 March to 19 July 2015<br \/>\n<em>Curated by<\/em> Luigi Cavallo<\/p>\n<p>For the programme of in-depth analysis of 20<sup>th<\/sup> century Italian Art, the <strong>Ardengo Soffici Museum<\/strong>\u00a0is organising a documentary exhibition, curated by Luigi Cavallo, with 20 paintings by the maestro from Poggio a Caiano and as many by <strong>Mario Sironi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The exhibition summarises the work of these two artists in the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century and is organised as a parallel anthology, not a historical-critical comparison, but rather an important opportunity to revisit essential chapters in the evolution of our history.<\/p>\n<p>The most important works of art exhibited include <strong>Sironi\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Il tram e la gru<\/em>\u00a0(1921),\u00a0<em>Nudo di schiena<\/em>\u00a0(1942),\u00a0<em>Paesaggio urbano<\/em>\u00a0(1943) and\u00a0<em>L\u2019idolo<\/em>\u00a0(1955) and <strong>Soffici<\/strong><em>\u2019s\u00a0<\/em><em>Scomposizione di piani di zuccheriera e bottiglia<\/em>\u00a0(1913),\u00a0<em>Fruttiera con pere<\/em>\u00a0(1915),\u00a0<em>Farfa<\/em>\u00a0(1946) and\u00a0<em>Paesaggio toscano<\/em>\u00a0(1960).<\/p>\n<p>The cultural and creative contrast between <strong>Soffici<\/strong>\u00a0(1879 \u2013 1964) and Sironi (1885 \u2013 1961) is assessed within a range of participations, which together with the poetics of the \u2018call to order\u2019 became an awareness of realty, according to Soffici a \u201csynthetic realism\u201d and according to Sironi the reality revealed in the existential laceration of an individual.<\/p>\n<p>The two different experiences lasted until the pressing events of the fifties, when Soffici discovered in the Tuscan landscape a perfect identification, matching his work to the natural course of the seasons, while Sironi experimented with the more risky experimentations of informality.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Silence\u2019 and \u2018disquiet\u2019, the definitions used as the subtitle for the exhibition can be applied to both these artists. There is silence in Sironi\u2019s work fundamentally inspired by Mediterranean classical nature and in his suburbs, places of unprecedented solitude. There is silence in the figures and villages painted by Soffici in order to portray their exemplary immutability.<\/p>\n<p>As far as \u2018disquiet\u2019 is concerned, the word fits perfectly with the mingling of life and painting, with the path they both followed in our society at the highest levels. A path that is evident when reading their biographies, with their at times dramatic events, and in the leap in their various stylistic periods, from futurism to realism.<\/p>\n<p>Contact between Soffici and Sironi was certainly not frequent, not as frequent as, for example, between Soffici and\u00a0<strong>Medardo Rosso, Carr\u00e0, de Chirico, de Pisis <\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><strong> Carena<\/strong>.
